Our Services
Behavior Casework
We provide evaluation and behavior modification services for behavior problems rooted in fear, separation anxiety, compulsive disorders, and all forms of aggression. All appointments require a minimum of an hour of your time. During that time we review the events of the week, assess the improvement of your skills and the quality of behavior change in the target areas and provide you the next layer of training skills and homework. We customize our coaching programs to fit your individual training needs.
Your training sessions include:
- How dogs learn
- Learning to read your dogs body language
- The emotional state of your dog and how it impacts their behavior
- How to communicate clearly and without confusion
- How to build reliable behaviors using classical and operant conditioning
- How to use a clicker or other behavior marking mechanism
- How to set appropriate boundaries and guidelines
- How to build strong behavioral responses, establishing what is normal for the learning curve of your domestic pet.
All behavior work requires a full medical evaluation by your veterinarian to screen out behavior problems that may be rooted in a medical issue.
All clients are required to go through an orientation appointment. Our first meeting is designed to allow us to assess your dog’s needs, your goals, your ability to comply with the case management issues and to insure that you are comfortable with the methods, tools and principles we use before you commit to a package of training.
In each appointment, we’ll check your pet’s history and current behavior and assess your training logs to get a thorough perspective on the behavior problem and your progress. When appropriate, we will work directly with your dog as part of the evaluation procedure. Once the assessment is complete, we will work with you to develop a treatment plan to prevent, treat and manage problem situations.
If you are in need of additional services that we do not provide, A Step Beyond will refer you to appropriately trained and certified professionals to meet your needs.
